Our History

On this page you will get a chance to look at the history of Polymnia Choral Society and listen to some of our long time members who have experienced much of our past. Check back from time to time as we build out this page.

Where it all began…

Rev. Stephen Ortlip (Polymnia’s first conductor) invited members of many communities to gather to sing sacred music during Lent. According to an article at the time, Polymnia made its debut on March 2, 1954, singing Mendelssohn’s “Elijah”. While we do not have the concert program for that performance, we do have a copy of the next concert program which was was “The Messiah” performed on December 12, 1954.
